Each Raspberry Pi has 40 PINs to which sensors can be connected. This can be done simply by using connectors such as the “jumper cables”, which cost just a few cents. The sensors can be plugged into a so-called “breadboard”. A basic package can be found on Amazon 🛒 (The package just as a clue, there is a lot of stuff you don’t need!). Now for the actual purpose of this article: Connecting sensors without soldering anything.
- For a simple setup on the desk and for testing a breadboard/plug-in board as shown in the picture below is helpful.
- For a fast replica the sensors can be connected directly to the pins of the Raspis as shown in the video.
- For fixed connectors a breakout module can be used.
- Furthermore, Grove connectors can be used as described in the separate article by Alexander. Alexander has designed a Grove plug adapter board for this purpose.
In this picture you can see such a breadboard on which the DHT22 sensor is plugged.
Because there are also PCBs that fit exactly on the 40 PINs of the Raspberry Pi (no matter if Raspi 3B+ or Zero WH). From there the cables can be simply clamped to the sensors. Click here for the Raspberry Pi screw terminal strip/breakout module.
